Independent Living Skills Workshops

The Independent Living Skills Workshops are free of charge.

They are held at:

Tri-County Independent Living

If, for any reason, you need special accommodations to attend a workshop,

please call us (707-445-8404) a week in advance so that we may provide it.

Also, please refrain from wearing any strong scents or cologne in

consideration to those with chemical-sensitivities.

- Going Back to School -

This Workshop will focus on on furthering one's education via adult education,

community college, or at a university. It will include tips on earning a GED and

using the disabled student services programs for assisitance.

- PRE-EMPLOYMENT PREPARATION -

This class offers advice on how to find gainful employment. It will look at ways to put

together a resume and cover letter, as well as interviewing techniques and how to best

present yourself to prospective employers.

- HOW TO BE ASSERTIVE -

This Workshop will address how to become your own best advocate.

It will show you how to speak up for yourself, as well as ways to stand up

for yourself without stepping on others.

Social Security

Do you need help filing for Social Security benefits?

Applying can be Difficult and Confusing !

The PROGRAMS:

SSI: The Supplemental Security income program is designed to help people with

disabilities who have limited or no income or resources.

SSDI: The Social Security Disability Insurance program is designed to provide

monthly disability benefits based on an insured workers earnings.

PASS: The Plan for Achieving Self-Support is a work incentive provision that

applies only to the SSI program.

You qualify if:

> You have a disability.

>You cannot work.

>You are a United States citizen.

Here at Tri-County, we will encourage you to apply for SSI/ SSDI even while recieving State Disability insurance. Tri County Independent Living staff are fully experienced in the Social Security process, which will improve your chances of recieving an award. All information is confidential. If you are awarded benefits, we will charge 25% of the retroactive award. (Which is the same as you would pay an attorney.)
